The average fees for a trustee director acting as chair are now at £80,693, with a significant range from £19,000 to £135,000, a new pensions salary survey shows.
The salary guide compiled by executive recruitment firm Hoffmann Reed also names £45,122 as the average fees for a senior independent trustee director or committee chair, ranging from £15,000 to £75,000.
A normal trustee director would cost on average £32,485, with a range from £5,000 to £64,000.
Pension executives do not come cheap either; the average base salary for a pensions director or chief executive is £277,279, according to Hoffmann Reed, and total compensation of £437,514. A chief investment officer base salary would set a fund back by £206,535 on average, with a total compensation of more than twice this sum.
A group pensions manager earns on average £97,601 in base salary, and a pensions manager £63,781, while the average for a scheme secretary is £42,167. Paul Battye
