Pensions minister Guy Opperman, who could not visit his wife and children when they were in hospital during lockdown, has criticised Boris Johnson for attending a garden party in 10 Downing Street in May 2020. Opperman's baby boys Teddy and Rafe died in June 2020, shortly after being born.

"It is not acceptable behaviour. He's apologised, and quite right too. He needs to change his behaviour going forward, and we all, I think, agree that," he said speaking at the BBC's Politics North programme.

The MP for Hexham said he felt "pretty emotional" about the issue because he could not support his wife and children in hospital to support them around the same time the party happened, and constituents could not visit relatives in care homes or attend funerals.
