The Reuters pension scheme has a new chair for the first time in 18 years, Border to Coast hires a chief investment officer and the HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Scheme appoints a member-nominated trustee. Here are the latest people moves you might have missed.

After 18 years chairing the Reuters Pension Fund, Greg Meekings will retire and be succeeded by Catherine Redmond from trustee firm Bestrustees, who is already on the Reuters trustee board. Redmond will be appointed by the scheme’s sponsor, London Stock Exchange Group, in March 2023.

“I am immensely proud of what your trustees and I have achieved over my tenure. RPF is in a strong funding position, and we weathered the recent economic storm very well,” Meekings said.

Ava Lau, head of reward analytics and optimisation at LSEG, said: “Greg has been an excellent chair of the RPF and has carefully navigated the scheme through multiple periods of change.  We would like to express our immense gratitude and thanks and wish him well in retirement.”

She added: “We are delighted that Catherine will be taking over the chair role... I have witnessed first-hand the level of professionalism and industry best practice she brings to pension schemes.”

Elsewhere, the Border to Coast local government pensions pool has appointed Joe McDonnell as its new investment chief. McDonnell was most recently serving as managing director, head of portfolio solutions at Neuberger Berman, where he focused on designing and overseeing multi-asset mandates, engaging with strategic partners, and identifying solutions for clients.

He has held several other investment leadership roles, including ten years at Morgan Stanley where he had several LGPS clients and, before that, managing the internal asset management businesses for Shell and IBM’s pension funds.

Rachel Elwell, the pool’s chief executive, said: “Joe has a range and depth of experience that will be hugely valuable as we continue to develop the propositions to support the needs of our Partner Funds. He is a significant addition to an already strong team, and I am pleased we continue to attract colleagues of this calibre to the organisation.”

McDonnell said: “Having watched Border to Coast develop over the last four years, I’m excited to be part of its journey.  It has established a reputation as an effective and responsible investor on behalf of its LGPS funds, and I look forward to ensuring Border to Coast continues to offer robust, innovative and sustainable investment opportunities.”

In other news, the trustee of the HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Scheme’s selection panel chose Lucy Hammond to join the trustee board as a member-nominated trustee from 1 January 2023 for a term of five years.
