AXA IM Alts, the alternative investments arm of the French insurance group, has agreed to sell Data4, one of Europe’s largest data centre platforms, on behalf of clients, to Brookfield Infrastructure, an investment firm specialised in infrastructure assets.
The sale price was undisclosed. AXA IM Alts said it was a ‘planned’ disposal after an “accelerated period of growth” of the platform.
AXA IM Alts acquired full control of the data centre in 2018 and subsequently worked with the company’s management team on the expansion of the platform.
“AXA IM Alts remains highly confident in the long-term value creation potential of sectors related to the storage and communication of data and will continue to actively seek acquisition and development opportunities in these asset classes in key markets across the globe,” the firm said.
The sale marks Brookfield’s first major entry into the European data centre market, a region that is expected to “experience significant growth in the years ahead”, according to AXA IM Alts.
Founded in 2006, Data4 has data centres across Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg and Poland. The company provides data hosting solutions to businesses such as digital service providers and cloud operators.
