It was a huge honour to open the inaugural Charities & Endowment event for mallowstreet. We proudly entered the Charities, Endowment and Foundation market through our investment focus event on Wednesday (22nd May).

The move into this space has been requested by the mallowstreet community. We are delighted that so many of you were able to attend and look forward to welcoming you in the years to come as we look to cement ourselves in the community.

We began the event with a keynote speech from Thomas Abrams from ShareAction, who shared how institutional investors highlighted the difficulties charities face in accessing high-impact investment opportunities, particularly in private sector deals, which are resource-intensive and scarce. He provided an understanding of how impact investing can play a key role in the fight against the obesity crisis, which annually costs more than the entire COVID-19 pandemic.

We then broke into our masterclass sessions, where delegates heard from Tokio Marine, who were discussing investment opportunities in Japan amid its resurgence. We also heard from Natixis, who were addressing global trends related to the major transitions underway in our global economies is critical in building more durable investment portfolios.

After our masterclass and coffee break, delegates headed to our panel discussion, which focused on the strategies and experiences of charitable foundations in implementing impact investing. Sandra Wolf was joined by T Clark, Andrew Gnaneswaran and Sophia Omar as they explored how foundations are incorporating impact investments so their portfolios are aligned with their organisational mission.

We also discussed the evolution of impact investing, noting its origins in philanthropy and its increasing adoption by foundations beyond the pioneering few. The role of collaboration among investors to share experiences and strategies was emphasised as crucial for advancing impact investing.

Delegates then broke into their final masterclass sessions, where they heard from Asset Value Investors, who discussed how complex structures can be unravelled and the importance of controlling shareholders. They also heard from Janus Henderson, who laid out structural investment opportunities presented by the coming green revolution and showed examples of leading names in this up-and-coming sector.

Thank you for those who were able to attend, and we look forward to doing more events in the sector for years to come.
