A ballot for select committee chairs has been scheduled for 11 September, with nominations running until 9 September. The Work and Pensions Committee will have a Labour MP as chair.
The Work and Pensions Committee is expected to get a new chair, as Sir Stephen Timms is once more a government minister. The ministerial code says ministers should give up any chair posts and membership of select committees.
The Work and Pensions Committee will again have a Labour party MP chairing it. Of 26 committee chairs being elected, the ruling party will now have 18, the Conservatives just five and the Liberal Democrats, with 72 MPs as of 4 July, three.
