mallowstreet University Dinner: As equity markets continue their strong (and long) run, how should portfolios be positioned as we head towards 2018?

Given how far equity markets have risen over the last few years, it is hardly surprising that investors are tempted to take profits. Valuations are looking stretched in some parts of the market, while interest rates may be about to rise for the first time since the 2008 crisis.

Over dinner, Simon Edelsten, portfolio manager of the Artemis Global Select strategy, will lead a discussion on how to position an equity portfolio in the current environment. He will examine some areas of the market where he continues to find well-managed, growing businesses trading on reasonable valuations. Japanese robotics companies and German fork lift truck makers are sure to feature in what we hope will be an interesting conversation.

Simon Edelsten Lead portfolio manager of the Artemis Global Select strategy
After studying Philosophy Politics and Economics at Trinity College, Oxford, Simon began his career with the BBC but soon turned his attention to UK and Pan European Equity sales after joining Grenfell & Colgrave in 1984. He then worked at Phillips & Drew and BZW. In 1997 he joined Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein where he held numerous positions such as Head of Pan European Equity Sales, Head of Telecoms and Head of Equity Research, until ultimately he became Managing Director. In April 2001, Simon was appointed Global Equity Fund Manager and Partner of Taube Hodson Stonex Partners. Simon joined Artemis in May 2011 as a Partner, to manage the Artemis Global Select strategy.
