  3. Investment Masterclass I: Why microfinance matters to investors, Symbiotics

    Most professional investors have never considered making an investment in Rwanda, Pakistan or Myanmar, yet these three and many other countries are good examples of some of the main asymmetries between the developed and the developing world today; all three have strong demographics, low indebtedness and hence strong economic growth, in stark contrast to many of the markets to which we allocate the main part of our investments. The presentation will deal with these asymmetries, why it makes sense to consider frontier markets both for financial and social returns, and what are the most effective ways of doing so.

    Within 9 years of existence, the crypto-economy has burst onto the scene. While many have been caught up in the noise associated with a surging price of bitcoin, few have noticed the signals of an emerging cryptoeconomy starting to take form. Today, there are now over 180 crypto exchanges and the largest single crypto exchange now equals the daily volume of the London Stock Exchange. All over the world, crypto companies and consumers are lending and borrowing in cryptocurrency, companies are accepting revenues and paying bills exclusively in cryptocurrency, an entirely new economy is detaching from the legacy financial system. Additionally, cryptocurrencies’ new approach of calculated, math based monetary policies coupled with the re-emergence of equity based money is causing a stir in the economic community, as the lure of debt based, human-run monetary policy has come into question.
