mallowstreet University Investment Focus: Investing in Real Estate

The past 18 months have seen huge upheaval for the economy and indeed for individuals as our towns and cities grew quiet. The Work from Home mandate left many wondering if an office return for companies is the right decision. Whilst others took the opportunity to up-sticks and relocate to the country or coast.

With our working environments and requirements changing, coupled with a demand that outstrips supply in many locations, what opportunities are now available for pension funds in Real Estate, and how can we access these.

During this Investment Focus, delegates will break into two groups and attend each Investment Masterclass in rotation. Here we will discuss the latest findings from some industry leading asset managers. Over the course of the morning, you will have the chance to question the speakers and to learn from your peers.

This event is FREE to attend for investment decision makers and their advisers, and is accredited for CPD points by the Pensions Management Institute (PMI).

  3. Rotating Investment Masterclass I - Innovation in UK Residential: Creating Inflation Linked Income

In our workshop, we will demonstrate how we turn innovation in UK residential property into secure inflation linked returns for pension schemes. Allianz Home Equity Income combines fintech and data with the country’s existing housing stock to deliver genuine diversification in residential investment, net inflation plus 2-4% income (nominal 5-8%) and is deployable with huge supply. It has first mover advantage for schemes and provides positive societal benefits for the new homeowners.

  5. Rotating Investment Masterclass II - UK Real Estate Living Sectors – A Defensive Play Against Rising Inflation?

The UK institutional Private Rented Sector (PRS) has the potential to be one of the largest in the world, but until recently it has formed only a very small part of the UK real estate investment universe. Supported by strong demographic changes and a structural undersupply of housing, combined with worsening home affordability leading to an increased propensity to rent, we believe the UK market has further capacity to grow. In an environment of potentially higher inflation and rising interest rates, we expect institutional investors looking for stable, long-term inflation linked returns to consider increasing their exposure to the living sector, and that it will become an established part of diversified UK real estate portfolios. • Where the UK stands in relation to other global real estate markets • How investors can access this emerging sector and where we see value • What is supporting the outlook for rental growth • Why student accommodation could form part of a diversified allocation to the living sector
