mallowstreet ESG Indaba

Delegates are expected to attend the full event. We do understand that this is a time commitment in diaries. Please do let us know if you need to step away for a call/meeting.

The mallowstreet ESG Indaba* will bring together some of the industry’s biggest influencers to hear a selection of interactive keynote presentations. These will be interspersed with four Investment Masterclass sessions which will cover how to integrate ESG into our governance and investment processes.

This event is FREE to attend for investment decision makers and their advisers and is accredited for CPD points by the Pensions Management Institute (PMI).

*An Indaba (pronounced in-dar-bah) is an important conference held by the izinDuna (principal people) of the Zulu or Xhosa people. The term comes from a Zulu language word meaning "business" or "matter".

  3. GREENSTEEL – The Case for Change

Demand for steel is forecast to double by 2050. Steel will continue to be the backbone and enabler of society’s evolution and progress. It will make the world a better place to live. Tomorrow’s smart cities will be built on steel. As an infinitely recyclable and reusable asset, using steel helps to reduce the burden on the Earth’s resources. And yet steel accounts for around 10% of global GHG emissions. We won’t get to net zero if we can’t decarbonise steel production. So how do we do that? And how do asset owners assess the investment case and barriers to implementation?

Claire will share her experiences of the new regime so far and outline what schemes in the first wave need to do over the coming months as they complete the tasks required in Year 1, highlighting lessons for schemes in the second wave. Why are tobacco exclusions more relevant than ever before? Gail will explore the ethical and sustainability considerations around investments in tobacco, especially in light of new commitments from the financial sector to align lending and investment portfolios with net zero by 2050 – or earlier. It will look at the financial performance of tobacco companies and growing investment risks associated with the industry.
