  11. A Trustees View on Approaching Risk

How should trustees consider the risks in their portfolios and how they should use their advisers? Are yields today anomalous, or was it last year’s yields that were wrong? Do risk models like VaR help or just lull us into a false sense of security? To what extent can trustee boards rely on the adviser community? How much common sense is used, or not used in the decision making process?

An experienced independent trustee gives his personal view on these issues from a non-technical standpoint.
