Workshop: Investing in Mezzanine Debt

Sankaty Advisors, 15 year veteran of corporate credit investing, is pleased to host a mallowstreet University breakfast workshop. The workshop focuses on in investing in mezzanine debt issued by middle market companies, and the role mezzanine debt play as part of the UK pension fund's fixed income allocation.
Sankaty Advisors will cover:

1. A definition and description of mezzanine securities: companies that issue them and their purpose.

2. Operation of the middle market: key players, how the market trades.

3. Income and returns from mezzanine securities, and the risks involved.

4. The reasons for allocation to mezzanine debt: how it might be used effectively by UK pension funds, how it can fit into an overall strategic fixed income asset allocation.

5. Mezzanine debt versus other less liquid investments such as private equity or distressed debt.

6. Other considerations when investing in this asset class including, size of company, industry and geography of issuer.

Speakers

David Brooks
Mr. Brooks joined Sankaty Advisors in 2007. He is a Senior Vice President based in the London office and member of Sankaty’s Middle Market Group. Previously, he was a consultant at Bain & Company in London and San Francisco, working in the Private Equity and Strategy Practices. Mr. Brooks received an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from the University of Oxford.
David Ross
Mr. Ross joined Sankaty Advisors in 2003. He is an Executive Vice President and co-head of Sankaty’s London office. He is also a member of Sankaty’s Middle Market Group and Restructuring team. Previously, Mr. Ross worked in Investment Banking at Credit Suisse First Boston focusing on M&A and Corporate Finance in the Technology sector. Mr. Ross received a B.A. from Harvard College.
MIke Ewald
Mr. Ewald joined Sankaty Advisors in 1998. He is a Managing Director, a Portfolio Manager for the Sankaty Middle Market Opportunities Fund and heads Sankaty’s Middle Market Group. Previously, Mr. Ewald was an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company for three years where he focused on strategy consulting to the Financial Services, Manufacturing and Consumer Products industries. Prior to that, he worked at Credit Suisse First Boston as an analyst in the Regulated Industries group. Mr. Ewald received an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a B.A. from Tufts University
