University Dinner: Inflation Linked Infrastructure Debt

Macquarie is pleased to be holding a mallowstreet University Dinner: Inflation Linked Infrastructure Debt, on Wednesday, 25 June 2014.

This dinner is intended for those who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of investing in Infrastructure, illustrated through case studies built around recently executed deals. James Wilson and Andrew Robertson (co-heads of Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Investment Solutions), together with a senior executive from a UK infrastructure borrower, will lead an in-depth discussion of how pension funds can move from talk to delivery in this attractive asset class.

To date Infrastructure has been the domain of large insurance companies and a handful of the very largest pension funds. Even these investors have struggled with limited deal flow and tightening credit spreads. Three things are set to change the scene radically:

The emergence of inflation-linked infrastructure debt: institutional investors lending on an inflation-indexed basis, rather than a fixed or floating rate; a vibrant new source of borrower demand has been opened up.
Pooled funds providing easier access: credible pooled fund solutions designed for UK investors are now emerging.
Improving liquidity: a large increase in involvement from institutional investors, most notably pension buyout providers, has opened up an increasing number of liquidity options for pension schemes who do not want to “buy and hold” investments for the full term.

Speakers

James Wilson
James joined Macquarie in 1995 and has over 25 years’ experience in the banking industry in the areas of Debt Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, Project and Structured Finance and Corporate Advisory. Prior to his current role within MIDIS, James was head of Macquarie's Debt Capital Markets business in Australia and New Zealand and prior to that was head of Macquarie's Debt Capital Markets business in the United States. James leads the investment team of the MIDIS business and sits on the Investment Committee.
Andrew Robertson
Andrew has been heavily involved in the development of investment products designed to meet the unique needs of long-term investors such as insurers, pension and sovereign wealth funds. Andrew has led a number of key product innovation initiatives within the Macquarie Funds Group. Prior to Macquarie, Andrew spent 4 years as a specialist consultant to the Australian life insurance and pensions industry. From 2000 to 2005 Andrew was an executive with McKinsey & Co where he led large projects working at senior levels of major international companies across various industries in the US, Asia Pacific and Australia. Andrew is primarily responsible for MIDIS overall business strategy and for engagement with MIDIS’s investor clients.
