This point keeps coming up in conversations. AI is already changing the way many of us go about our work, and I believe it will also create a slew of new of jobs we haven’t even thought of yet.
While history rarely repeats, it often rhymes. We’ve seen this before. Take the invention of the steam engine, the automobile, the personal computer, the internet, the smart phone. In each of these examples, the labour market was transformed. Some jobs were made redundant, and new jobs were created. I think this is the natural result of innovation – there is simultaneous destruction and creation. It often takes years for new technology to fully work its way into society and the economy. Sometimes it can take decades.
When it comes to AI, we are only at the start of this journey – and keeping perspective is difficult. Can you imagine working without your laptop, smartphone, and the interconnectivity of the internet? Reading this sentence, your heart probably skipped a beat. I know mine did when I wrote it.
Now it is time to understand how we can harness the power of AI and incorporate it into our jobs, on a daily basis. What are the things that only you can do – better than anyone else, and better than any AI algorithm. AI isn’t going to hold the client relationship in the future – you will. But those individuals who are the most successful, have the most time, and have the best insights aren’t just naturally in a strong position – they will be the same people who are using AI as a trusted partner in their jobs, every day, to enhance their human skills and compensate for our weaknesses.
