It was great to see so many community members at the mallowstreet Insurance Indaba this week. In a packed day, we kicked off with a talk from Dr Junaid Mubeen who explained how even the more abstract areas of maths can serve as a powerful mental model for decisions we face every day – a highly insightful framework.

Minette Batters, Former President of the National Farmers’ Union, picked up the conversation and helped us understand why, in trade talks, agriculture is always the first chapter to be discussed and the last chapter to be agreed.

Dr Tim Gregory closed the session with a fascinating talk about our solar system, and explained how micro-reactors and advanced nuclear batteries will open the door to further exploration of it.

Interspersed with these keynote sessions, we had five world class managers presenting in the investment masterclasses:

·        Corporate Direct Lending – Providing Resilient Returns in Challenging Environments (Berenberg)
·        An Active Approach to Credit: the Best Form of Offence and Defence (M&G Investments)
·        US Private Credit: Stepping In as Banks Step Out (PIMCO)
·        The Role of Natural Capital in the Energy Transition (Quinbrook)
·        Demystifying Asset-Backed Finance (TCW)

Well done to all our panel members – Christian Hristov (PIC Capital), Hemal Popat (Mercer) and Natalie Waller (Aspen Insurance) – for taking a tonne of questions from the audience and sharing your insights with us.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the day, and for all of your questions and comments in each session. What were your main takeaways from the day?
