In a recent post I said that we were starting a new series over the summer called ‘New Feature Tuesday’. Today I turn my attention to the new SOFI Scores that are now available. In this post, I want to focus on two SOFI scores: the Soap Box Score and Broadcast Time Score. 

The Soap Box Score tells me how much time I spoke in a meeting before I was interrupted. Broadcast time shows me the average amount of time I speak at each point in a conversation – i.e., is it really a conversation? 

So, I set SOFI a challenge – how have I been performing across my last 150 meetings? 

I can instantly see from my Soap Box Score I often usually speak for between 5-10 minutes before being interrupted with a question, and better still my Broadcast Time Score indicates the vast majority of my meetings are actually a conversation – I speak about three minutes before someone else jumps into the discussion. Of course, there are outliers – and SOFI allows you to instantly drill down into any meeting, and I knew immediately that the 35+ minute Soap Box Score (my heart sank when I first saw it) was actually from a webinar I presented (phew). 

What’s even better is SOFI will soon be able to give me benchmarks and averages, comparing me to how my peers are doing, and show me what good really looks like. So, what do I have to do to improve? I have way too many meetings where I’m taking way too much – something which I need to work on, but something I can change instantly. Being mindful of this I’m listening more, and having more productive meetings as a result.
