Chaired by Dawid, the day started with a talk from Robert Garder entitled “creating a world worth living in – how pension funds can drive action in 2025”. Framed around the theme of ‘The Bad News, the Good News, and some Great Ideas to Implement’, Rob explored the good and bad of where we stand today, took us through case studies of the positive strides already being made, and explained how we can leverage these to accelerate impact in the coming year.
We then heard from Mark Watts who talked about the changes the energy transition brings, what to look for, what to avoid, and how pension funds can swiftly and efficiently deploy assets to take advantage of the opportunities that this megatrend affords.
Jordan Griffiths, Lok Ma and Melanie Cusack picked up the conversation and shared the best investments they are currently seeing from an E, S and G perspective, and also touched on what is now needed to achieve net zero. There was cautious optimism about the future of sustainable investing, acknowledging that while challenges remain, there are also significant opportunities for making a positive impact through investment strategies.
Finally, Keith Guthrie provided a behind-the-scenes look at now:pensions and Cardano’s approach to sustainable investing, sharing how they are guiding their portfolios to generate positive environmental impact alongside financial returns. We learned more about the unique opportunities available today and gained a better understanding of how pension investments can be a powerful force for a sustainable future.
Interspersed with these keynote sessions we heard four world class investment managers present four fascinating investment workshops:
- The Low Carbon Fallacy – How Fixed Income Investing can Play a Critical Role Bridging the Transition Gap (Abrdn Investments)
- How can Clients Reach their Biodiversity and Net Zero Targets? (AXA Investment Managers)
- Investing in Nature through Listed Companies (Impax Asset Management)
