Nico Aspinall Sustainability advocate
Nico is a sustainability advocate, focused on communicating Newton’s approach to responsible investment and sustainability both internally and externally. Nico joined Newton in July 2023 and has previously held several roles in pensions investment for consultants, asset owners and asset managers, including being the first chief investment officer of The People’s Pension, a leading UK defined contribution (DC) master trust.
Nico holds a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences specialising in Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge and is a qualified actuary.
Nico volunteers extensively for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, contributes to research papers, and is currently the deputy chair of the Institute’s Finance and Investment Board.
In his free time, Nico co-hosts VFM pensions, a podcast about DC pensions.

Nick Pope Portfolio manager, Sustainable Equity strategies
Nick is a portfolio manager for Global, International, US, European and UK sustainable strategies.
He joined Newton in 2011 as a global research analyst responsible for the insurance, real estate and asset management sectors. Nick moved across to the portfolio management team in 2021 to co-lead the Asian Income strategy. He assumed responsibility for the sustainable strategies in 2022.
Prior to joining Newton, Nick qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young, before working as a European equity analyst at Jefferies International. Nick holds a first-class honours degree in Microbiology from the University of Edinburgh.
Outside of work Nick has a young family, is a keen golfer and beleaguered supporter of Tottenham Hotspur football club.
