  3. The Trust in Trustee: From Decumulation to Digital – Putting Members First

Elizabeth will open the DC Indaba with a thought-provoking keynote exploring how trustees can rebuild and strengthen trust in an increasingly complex and technological pensions landscape. From navigating rapid decumulation innovation and evolving regulatory expectations, to ensuring communications remain credible in a world where members may turn to AI before their scheme, Elizabeth will challenge trustees to rethink their role as trusted guides.

She will examine how AI can enable personalised “pension plans of one”, address adequacy and engagement through clearer visualisation, and help close the gender pensions gap through more tailored risk communication. Connecting pensions to wider wellbeing, she will also explore how developments in healthcare monitoring and technology could reshape retirement planning and intergenerational fairness.

Provocative, practical and member-centric, this keynote sets the tone for the day by asking one central question: how do we truly put the trust back into trustee?

  17. DC vs CDC: What’s Next for Scheme Design?

Paul will bring Hymans Robertson’s latest research into the DC vs CDC debate, exploring what future scheme design could look like as the industry searches for better retirement outcomes. He’ll examine the key advantages and trade-offs of CDC compared to traditional DC — including risk-sharing, income certainty, and member engagement — and how trustees can approach the decision-making process in a structured way.

This session will help schemes understand the pathways available, the practical considerations of adopting CDC, and what staying in DC could still achieve with the right investment and retirement strategy.
