Improved funding levels and an increase in cashflow negativity suggest pension schemes have less of a need to invest for growth, and can shift their allocations to meet cashflow needs. Given the increased need to meet cash outflows, forced selling can lead to significant costs if portfolios do not have income-generating assets, raising issues of path dependency. PIMCO want to share our latest research into constructing and managing portfolios that generate contractually-defined cashflows, either through income or maturing assets, to meet cashflow needs.
